We are currently living on 2 1/2 acres outside a small rural town in Missouri—population 1800.
We have both dabbled in living "off the land" at various times in our life separately befroe we were married and more than once since we married in 2007.
Though we have never before gone "all in" like we are attempting now, we have tried various aspects of this life. We have raised chickens and rabbits and attempted a vegetable garden in every place we have lived.
There is currently a very strong movement to get away from the cities and live as far away as possible. This requires acquiring a completely different set of skills.
It is easy to go the store and buy a carton of milk. It is a whole different story to go out to the barn and retrieve milk from a cow or a goat. We want to learn how to do that.
Those who know little about this lifestyle are among those who have the idea "Why do we need farmers? We can just go to the store"
While that may be just a caricature of the lack of knowledge, there are many who do not understand or know about this life.
We know just a little more than those folks, and that is the purpose of this blog and website.
We will document our journey into this life as it relates to living in Southwest Missouri in Growing Zone 6b.
